CEO, WorldQuant’s Virtual Research Center

Richard Brown is an executive and entrepreneur with expertise in commercializing leading-edge, technology-based business ventures, largely for early-stage, undefined markets. Currently, Rich is CEO of WorldQuant, LLC’s Virtual Research Center, which operates a crowdsourced online investment research and trade strategy development platform with more than 50,000 users and nearly 600 consultants across the globe.

Before joining WorldQuant, Rich was managing partner at Semiotics, LLC, a boutique consulting firm focused on developing businesses and products with a particular focus on information services. At Semiotics, he worked on various engagements including cyber security analytic implementations, assessments of private sector market opportunities for a defense company’s technologies and various alternative data projects. Additionally, as part of his recent work as a partner at Antuit, a big data analytics and consulting company, Rich was responsible for developing the strategy for its financial services offerings, including consumer profiling and personalization solutions, as well as marketing attribution and bespoke data science engagements.

Prior to his consulting roles, Rich was the global head of Elektron Analytics for Thomson Reuters, where he managed the strategy and P&L for a suite of software and data products targeted primarily at quantitative and event-driven trading clients. In addition to the Machine Readable News and text analytics business for which he is most recognized, he also managed the two petabyte Tick History data service, a high-performance market data analytic engine, post-trade compliance analytics, and a real-time data visualization partnership with Panopticon/Datawatch. Rich was also a co-founder and chief operating officer of Foresight Research Solutions, LLC, a New York-based independent research firm and member of the NASD and SIPC. Additionally, he was a senior client manager for IBM, where he managed its relationships and sales efforts with major Fortune 500 clients.

Rich has been widely quoted as a company spokesperson on big data, text analytics and social media use for trading and investment strategies and has served on numerous occasions as both a panelist and moderator at industry events covering various financial services and big data topics. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management and international business from The Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
